marriages of nepalThe legal and social union relationship between a bride and bridegroom as a wife and husband is known as marriage and wedding.Therefore it is a formal relation of a man and women.There are two common marriage system in the world.One is "arranged marriage"in which parents choose a husband or wife for their child,and the other one is "love marriage"in which a marriageable boy and girl who are already in love,got married with their parent's permission or without their permission.
In the context of Nepal traditional marriage system that is arranged marriage is very common.The boy's parents usually ask girl's parents for her hand for their son.The marriage broker or the mediator,who is called LAMI in nepal plays an important role to unite the two young people.She,with the help of the girls and boy's parents fixed the wedding day consulting the tradition calender called PATRO.
On the day of wedding the groom leaves his home towards bride's home after eating sagun(an auspicious food)along with therelations,neighbour and other participants.The participants along with the groom is called JANTI and th process is called JANTA.There is a system of going to bride's home or on wedding spot with music band.After they arrived at bride's home the process is begin rather the performance is long.After she receive sindoor from the groom,the marriage become legal and reliable.The marriage process enda when the bride's father or brother farewells the bride.
The main events of marriage ceremony are giving and receiving rings,giving sindoor to the bride,performing YAGYA and finally introduction between families of bride's and groom's.The marriage party may follow on the day of marriage in bride's home and on the next day in the groom's house or in any other places.
